The Matthias-Film gGmbH is a nonprofit media sales company. The sole shareholder is the joint venture of Protestant journalism . The managing director is Pastor Bernd Merz.

history

The company was founded in 1950 as a film distribution and film production company of the Protestant Church. In 1960 the film production division was spun off into Eikon gGmbH. Since then, the company has only been involved in film productions sporadically . Today, videos and DVDs are primarily distributed with the license to show the films publicly and for non-commercial purposes.

program

The sales program includes feature films and documentaries . The main focus is on films that are suitable for showing in educational or church institutions. As a result, the films in the distribution stock address social, ethical and religious issues. In addition to many films, didactic materials such as question and answer functions, additional image and sound material or worksheets are provided. This material is intended to promote and deepen the examination of the content of the film. In addition, Matthias-Film offers picture books as picture book cinema .

Prizes and awards

The company was awarded the Comenius Medal of the Society for Education and Information in 2004 for its activities (series DVD-educativ with the films " Faust ", " The Abduction from the Seraglio " and " Anders-Artig ").
