Matthias Bleicken , also Bleichen (born September 5, 1822 in Keitum , † June 11, 1883 in Tondern ) was a German local politician.

Live and act

Matthias Bleicken was a son of the captain Jens Bleicken (1783-1859) and his wife Maria Engelina, née Boysen (1794-1887). His brother Bleick Matthias Bleicken was a lawyer and local politician.

Bleicken completed a law degree and, after successfully passing the exam, began a traineeship at the Flensburg administration . With the outbreak of the Schleswig-Holstein uprising , he worked for the provisionally formed government from 1848 . After the war he had to leave the country, but was able to return after the amnesty in 1851. After the German-Danish War , the Prussian government appointed him mayor of Tondern and district councilor in 1864 .

Since the Tondern district was not homogeneous in terms of administration and nationality, Bleicken took on a difficult position. As a Frisian and thanks to his knowledge of history, he was able to meet the expectations of both the Danish and the German population. Through his work in the administration and his interpretation of the ordinances, he was able to prevent attacks against the Danes, which earned him the reputation of the Danish population.
