Village church Koßdorf

The evangelical village church Koßdorf is a church building in the district Koßdorf of the small town Mühlberg / Elbe in the southern Brandenburg district Elbe-Elster . The church can be found here in the center of the village. The building is now a listed building .

Building description and history

In 1251 the Koßdorf church was first mentioned as a branch church of the old Belgians .

Today's Koßdorf church is a late Romanesque plastered hall building made of brick with a mighty west transverse tower from the middle of the 13th century. In the east of the nave, which was newly built in 1736, there is a semicircular apse from the construction period . The tower with a tent roof is made of brick and lawn iron stone . A roof turret with an octagonal , open lantern and tower clock is placed in the middle . The paired sound windows on the upper floor of the tower, which serves as a bell chamber, are clearly visible . Inside the church they are built into the organ. In the north of the nave there is a two-storey extension from the 18th century, which houses the sacristy and a patronage gallery. Neo-Gothic porches can be found in the north and south.

Equipment (selection)

The simply designed interior of the church is characterized by a plastered ceiling and a horseshoe gallery. The apse is domed. The inventory includes a life-size crucifix from the first half of the 18th century.

The organ , created by Delitzsch master organ builder Gottlieb Müller from 1846 to 1848 , has a mechanical slide box , two manuals , twenty-one registers and an independent pedal . As an engraving on one of the organ pipes discovered in 2001 shows, when this organ was built, Müller took over an entire register of tin pipes from the Meissen organ builder Johann Ernst Hähnel (1697–1777). The Koßdorf organ was badly damaged at the end of the Second World War , which meant that it was unplayable in the meantime. In 2001 the instrument was restored by the Bad Liebenwerda organ builder Voigt and has since been playable again.

Time for disabled people in Koßdorf

The Koßdorf parish, which today belongs to the Evangelical Parish Area "Mühlberg / Elbe and Koßdorf", is characterized by several decades of work with the disabled. As part of a set-up period , with the support of numerous voluntary helpers, disabled people have been made possible every year since 1973 to spend their holidays in Koßdorf . During the event, which lasts several weeks, excursions, sports festivals, film evenings and church services are offered. In this way, the participants can experience varied days far away from their usual everyday life. Most of the participants come from the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt , Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia , but some also come from more remote parts of Germany.
