His dramatic teacher was opera director Robert Müller . After successfully auditioning, he made his debut at the Schwerin court theater.

From Schwerin he moved to the court theater in Mannheim (1902–1905), after which he worked in Magdeburg from 1905–1906.

He then lived as a guest in Magdeburg and from around 1913 in Wiesbaden. From there he worked until at least 1921.
