Max Schirner
Max Schirner (born November 6, 1891 in Berlin , † August 15, 1952 in Berlin-Charlottenburg ) was a pioneer of sports photography in Germany.
Life
Schirner initially worked as an editor for several newspapers, including the Frankfurter Zeitung and the Berliner Tageblatt . In his spare time he did athletics and soccer and was a founding member of SC Charlottenburg .
After the First World War , Schirner became self-employed as a photographer without ever having completed any training in this direction. In 1924 he founded the Schirner Pressebild Berlin agency , which was renamed Sportbild Schirner in 1930 . The agency developed into one of the most important in its branch and was one of the few accredited reporters at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. The agency employed photographers such as Wolfgang Albrecht and Heinrich von der Becke .
Max Schirner died in 1952. His daughter Susanne Seiffert-Schirner then took over the management of the agency. She died at the age of 85 on August 18, 2017 in Potsdam. Some of the photos from the Sportbild Schirner agency are in the image archive of the German Historical Museum (DHM) in Berlin.
