Maxey Castle

Maxey Castle is a ruined castle near the village of Maxey in the English county of Cambridgeshire .

Details

The medieval fortified mansion was built near the village by William Thorpe in the 1370s. The castle was surrounded by a double moat , possibly intended as a safety against floods. There was a central donjon within the inner castle walls , which were provided with corner towers.

Today there are only remains of parts of the moat that are considered a Scheduled Monument .
