history

It was founded in 1562 by Pankraz von Freyberg zu Hohenaschau . The iron mine in the nearby Eisenärzt served the hut as a source of raw materials until 1881. King Max I Josef had the hut rebuilt after a fire in 1824. Afterwards the hut was named Maximilianshütte or Maxhütte for short . After ore mining ended in 1881, the smelter was converted to a foundry and mechanical engineering . This part continued until 1932.

museum

In 2002 a museum was opened in the rooms of the Maxhütte. The history of the ironworks, iron extraction and processing as well as the life of the ironworkers are presented.

Products

In the period from 1881 to 1932, various cast iron products were made in the hut, of which many such as cast iron chairs and benches are still preserved and are common in Chiemgau.
