Maxlried

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maxlried is a district of Oberhausen in the Weilheim-Schongau district , Upper Bavaria .

history

The village was named after the first Bavarian King Max I , who had the former moor area reclaimed and assigned it to non-residents. The mistrust that was shown to these newcomers in 1812 is still evident today in the saying “Maxlriad - fifteen houses, eighteen diab!” Popular with locals from other parts of Oberhausen's municipality.

Today the landscape in the moor also attracts outsiders. The painter Sigrid Meggendorfer has her studio and residence there.
