Maxmo (Swedish), in Finnish Maksamaa , is a former municipality in western Finland . Today it is part of the municipality of Vörå .

Maxmo is located in the western Finnish region of Ostrobothnia , around 30 km northeast of the city of Vaasa on the archipelago of the Gulf of Bothnia . In addition to the parish village of Maxmo, the community also included Tottesund, Kärklax, Kvimo, Djupsund, Särkimo, Västerö and Österö. More than half of the former municipal area is on islands and skerries. This includes the archipelago Mickelsörarna which since 2006 as part of the World Heritage Site High Coast / Kvarken for World Heritage matters. The municipality of Maxmo had an area of 153.8 square kilometers (excluding the marine areas) and most recently 1,035 inhabitants. 90% of them were Finland-Swedes . 8% spoke Finnish as their mother tongue. The community was officially bilingual.

Originally belonging to the parish of Vörå, Maxmo received its own prayer house in 1706 , and in 1775 it became a chapel parish . Maxmo was raised to an independent parish in 1872. Maxmo existed as a political municipality until 2006; on January 1, 2007, it merged with the neighboring municipality of Vörå to form the new municipality of Vörå-Maxmo . This in turn merged with Oravais at the beginning of 2011 to form a new municipality, which again bears the name Vörå.

The town hall of Maxmo is an old wooden manor house in Tottesund; the composer Jean Sibelius married here in 1892.
