May Chidiac
May Chidiac ( Arabic مي شدياق, DMG Mayy Šidyāq ; * July 20, 1966 in Beirut ) is a Lebanese journalist .
Life
May Chidiac worked for the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC). She was an anchor woman there with a focus on political issues and is known for her anti- Syrian stance. On September 25, 2005, she was assassinated with a car bomb , which she survived. She lost her left forearm and left leg as a result of the attack.
She went to France for treatment . On July 12, 2006, she returned to Lebanon and resumed her work a little later. On January 27, 2006, she announced her candidacy for the parliamentary seat of Baabda-Aley in the by-elections.
Awards
- In 2006 Chidiac received the "Courage in Journalism Awards" from the "International Women's Media Foundation" (IWMF) and
the UNESCO / Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize for press freedom - In 2007 she was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
