Mayangna
The Mayangna (also known as Sumo or Sumu ) are an indigenous people in Central America . Their language belongs to the Misumalpan family .
The Mayangna are native to the east coast of Nicaragua and Honduras , a region known as the Miskito Coast . In 2010 around 27,000 Mayangna lived in Nicaragua. There are a total of 36 Mayangna parishes, five of which are in Honduras. For several centuries the Mayangna have been displaced by the Miskito in their ancestral areas . Today the Mayangna mainly live in the area of the Bosawás Biosphere Reserve.
