action

The tales of Mayo Chiki! focus on the environment of the high school student Kinjirō Sakamachi ( 坂 町 近 次郎 , Sakamachi Kinjirō ), who one day makes an unusual discovery. The butler Subaru Konoe ( 近衛 ス バ ル , Konoe Subaru ), entirely in the service of the rich Suzutsuki family and their daughter and student Kanade Suzutsuki ( 涼 月 奏 , Suzutsuki Kanade ), turns out to be a woman before the eyes of the protagonist. The reaction from Subaru, who wants to kill him most, is correspondingly strong. Eventually he discovered the secret that Kanade does not have a male butler, which is completely contrary to the tradition of the two families. Subaru is only allowed to perform this task as long as no one is aware of this without bringing shame on their family.

Subaru's first attempts to get rid of him, however, survived due to daily, involuntary training with his younger sister Kureha Sakamachi ( 坂 町 紅 羽 , Sakamachi Kureha ) harmless. Emulating her mother, she is obsessed with becoming a great fighter, which is why she repeatedly abuses Kinjirō as a test subject. Since Subaru was unsuccessful in eliminating him, her mistress Kanade finally also gets Kinjirō's discovery and finds that Kinjirō is "allergic" to women, which is usually expressed in immediate nosebleeds. Kanade, who can be described as quite sadistic, therefore devises the plan that Kinjirō should keep Subaru's secret and, in return, Subaru should help him to overcome his allergy through a kind of desensitization.

As a result of this situation, Subaru and Kinjirō fall in love, which is understood at school as a love between two boys. He is not only confronted with the accusation of being gay, but is also despised by the two Subarus fan clubs, which consist of girls, who see him as competition for his favor. While the first of these two fan clubs opposes the apparently homoerotic relationship between Subarus and Kinjirōs, the second club from Fujoshis tries to support the young, freshly awakening happiness of the two, and if necessary duels with the first group.

As the couple gets closer and closer, this process is hindered again and again by all sorts of misunderstandings and by the need to maintain Subaru's camouflage: in addition to the fact that both cannot publicly show themselves as a couple and that Kinjirō's sister Kureha is head over heels Subaru falls in love, also because Kanade apparently also develops feelings for Kinjirō, although it never really becomes clear to what extent she just enjoys living out her sadism on him.
