Mbalmayo is a city in Cameroon in the Center region . It is the capital of the Nyong-et-So'o district . It is located about 40 kilometers south of Cameroon's capital Yaoundé on the N2 highway and on the Nyong River .
The city was founded in 1910 during the German colonial era; it has been the seat of the Mbalmayo diocese since 1961 . Agriculture and forestry are the main sources of income.
