Division of the regions into departments

The 10 regions of Cameroon are the highest administrative division of the state of Cameroon . They have been called regions since November 12, 2008, when the then and current President Paul Biya renamed the previously existing "Provinces of Cameroon" into regions by decree .

French is the official language in eight of these regions, and English is the official language in the two regions Southwest ( French Sud-Ouest ) and Northwest ( French Nord-Ouest ) .

The regions are divided into 58 districts ( departments / départements ) with more than 300 municipalities ( arrondissements ).
