Mbulu ( Iraqw Imboru ) is the capital of the district of the same name in the Manyara region in Tanzania . It is the seat of the Mbulu diocese .

The Iraqw ethnic group living in the region , for whose area Mbulu is the administrative and economic center, is also called Mbulu or Wambulu in Swahili . In the German colonial era , however, this term was used by some researchers for the Datooga who lived nearby at the beginning of colonization.

During the German colonial era, there was a branch of the Aruscha district administration in the place called "Umbulu". The White Fathers set up a station called "Neu-Trier" near the village .
