McCormick Place in Chicago is the largest convention center in the United States by exhibition space . The event complex consists of four interconnected sections of the building that together provide 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space (over 241,000 square meters). This complex also includes the Wintrust Arena , which opened in 2017. The exhibition center hosts several large trade and industrial fairs annually, some of which are of national importance. These include, for example, the Chicago Auto Show , the oldest and one of the largest automobile shows in the USA, or the International Manufacturing Technology Show , the largest machine tool trade fair in the country. The fair, which opened in 1960, was named after the former editor of the Chicago Tribune , Robert R. McCormick, who at the time pioneered the idea of a large congress complex.

As in other suitable facilities across the US, a 3,000-bed makeshift hospital was set up in McCormick-Place in April 2020.
