McEntagart Bros. was an assembly plant for motor vehicles and thus part of the automotive industry in Ireland .
Company history
The brothers Jack and Percy McEntagart founded the company in Dublin in 1919 . At first they worked as a car dealership . They sold vehicles from Rolls-Royce , Citroën and from around 1932 also from the Standard Motor Company . The assembly of Standard automobiles began in 1933 and Packard in 1935 .
Both brothers died during World War II . Their widows hired Matt McQuaid as director. Under pressure from Standard's John Black, a new factory was built in the suburb of Kimmage . John Beggan became production manager. Packard production ended in 1953. In 1954 or 1955 Standard took over shares. An advertisement is known from 1956 in which The Standard and Triumph Assembly Plant (McEntagart Bros. Ltd) is mentioned. In the same year, the assembly of Peugeot was added.
In 1958 a new company was founded. It was called the Standard Motor Company (Eire) first and then Standard-Triumph (Eire) .
vehicles
Only the offered models have survived from the standard. In 1937 or 1939 there were 9 HP, 10 HP, 10–12 HP, 12 HP, 16 HP and 20 HP. After the Second World War , the Flying 8, Flying 12 and Flying 14 followed. The Standard Vanguard introduced in 1949 was too expensive to be successful in Ireland. The Triumph Mayflower with its idiosyncratic design, offered from 1949 to 1953, was also not very successful. The Standard Eight followed in 1953 .
The Packard 120 and the Clipper have come down to us.
The Peugeot 403 was created from 1956 to 1958.
Production numbers
With regard to Peugeot, it is said that either 36 or 84 units were produced in 1956, and 120 in the following year. However, the number of registrations is lower.
The following are Irish registration numbers for Standard, Packard, Peugeot and Triumph vehicles from the years McEntagart Bros. assembled them. The figures for the last year also include the assemblies by Standard-Triumph (Eire), as splitting is not possible within one year.
