McKay Island is an island in the Cape Fear River in North Carolina . The small island is located in the upper Cape Fear about three kilometers below the confluence of its two source rivers and about five kilometers above the Buckhorn Dam . It is a good one kilometer long, up to 300 meters wide, wooded and uninhabited.
The upper reaches of the Cape Fear River forms the border of Counties Lee and Chatham , this border runs almost centrally over McKay Island.
