Mechthild II of Wohldenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mechthild II von Wohldenberg († 1316 ) was abbess of the Gandersheim monastery from 1305 to 1316 .

Mechthild came from the Woldenberg family . She was the sister of Heinrich II von Woldenberg .

She was already a canoness and provost in Gandersheim before she was elected abbess there.

In order to be confirmed in office by the Pope, she sold her pen in the same year 2 Hufen in Beulshausen as a contribution to the costs. After 3 years of reflection, Clemens V had Gottfried von Waldeck put this wish into practice.

The family ties between the siblings remained close even after they took office: she bought him tithe obligations of the monastery in exchange for contemporary silver coins , and he bought her from Bockenem from centuries of monastery ownership.

In the year after her death, Richenza, daughter of Albrecht II (Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel-Göttingen) and previously a nun in the Wienhausen monastery , was elected as her successor in office. However, the election remained invalid because Pope John XXII. refused to confirm.
