Medal "For outstanding performance in the five-year plan"

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The medal "For outstanding achievements in the five-year plan" was an award of the Free German Youth (FDJ) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in 1952 as a replacement for the honorary title of young activist in one stage , which had been awarded up until then . The medal was awarded to individuals; especially for the overcrowding of the standards set five-year plan . In 1959 the award of the medal was stopped, so that the honorary title of young activist was renewed.

Appearance and wearing style

The gold shimmering medal shows on its obverse in the middle the depiction of a factory and agricultural production facilities. This symbolism is surrounded by the inscription: FOR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE IN THE FIVE-YEAR PLAN . The separation between the inscription and the central symbolism is determined by a wreath of ears and the section of an industrial wheel with teeth. On the upper right edge of the medal is an FDJer who is holding a waving blue enamelled FDJ flag in his right hand. Both the activist's head and the flag extend over the edge of the medal. Overall, the medal is 41 mm high and was numbered on the reverse until 1954.

The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on a blue clasp that was ribbon-covered from 1952 to 1953. Two black, red and gold central stripes were woven into this ribbon, 4 mm from the hem. In addition, there was a golden horizontal clasp embossed with the year 1952 or 1953 , the year of the award.

Around mid-1953, the band-related clasp was replaced by a light blue enameled clasp with the year stamped on it. These are available with the years 1953 to 1959 . Furthermore, the layout of the medal has been changed slightly in this context. These changes affect the representation of the FDJ flag, the activist and the industrial symbolism.
