The medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" ( Russian Медаль "Партизану Отечественной войны" ) was a state military award of the USSR , which was introduced on February 2, 1943 in two classes. 56,883 medals were awarded from the 1st class in silver and 70,992 medals from the 2nd class in brass.

Award terms

The medal could be awarded to all Soviet partisans in the Great Patriotic War , as well as to persons in the leadership of partisan divisions and other organizers of the partisan movement. The prerequisite was the deployment as a partisan in the rear of the enemy as well as courage, boldness and steadfastness in carrying out the tasks. The first class was awarded when the entrusted had achieved special services in the organization of the partisan movement and for bravery, heroism and outstanding success in partisan struggle. The II class of the medal was given as a personal award in active combat.

Appearance and wearing style

The medal with a diameter of 32 millimeters is silver-plated in the first class and made of gold-shimmering brass in the second class. The obverse of both medals shows the heads of Lenin (back) and Stalin (front) on the inner ring with a diameter of 24 millimeters . A waving banner winds around it, which is laid in folds on its lower side and bears the letters CCCP . The chain of letters is interrupted by a red star after CC . The inscription reads: Партизану Отечественной войны  (The Partisan of the Patriotic War). The reverse of the medal shows the three-line inscription under the hammer and sickle symbol : За нашу / советскую / родину  (For our Soviet homeland). The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest, in the 1st class on a light green pentagonal clasp, in the middle of which a two millimeter wide vertical red central stripe was woven. The second class belt is identical, but has a blue central stripe.
