The medal "Guard over the Fatherland" ( Romanian Medalia de strajâ patriei ) was a state award of the People's Republic of Romania . The foundation took place on November 15, 1957 by Decree No. 517 of the Council of State ( Consiliul de stat ). The statutes were published in the Romanian State Gazette ( Buletinul oficial ) No. 31. The medal, which had been donated in one class, was given to members of the Army of the Interior Ministry for outstanding achievements and personal actions in their area of ​​work, but also for the protection of the national border as well awarded for very good results in carrying out their work.

The medal has the shape of a five-pointed star, which is enameled dark red on the obverse . The center of the star, on the other hand, is enamelled in light blue and shows the state coat of arms and the majuscules RPR , from 1966 onwards RSR. Medal designs without a country abbreviation are known. The medallion is framed by a green writing ring on which the inscription REPUBLICA POPULARA ROMINA, from 1967 REPUBLICA SOCIALISTA ROMANIA, can be read. The reverse of the coin is smooth and shows in the upper third of a five-pointed star with the two-line inscription DE STRAJA PATRIEI.

The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a 23 mm wide green pentagonal clasp. A 2 mm wide blue stripe is woven in the middle of the ribbon and is flanked by two 5 mm wide blue stripes.
