The medal "For the 1500th anniversary of Kiev" ( Russian Медаль "В память 1500-летия Киева" ) was an award of the former Soviet Union , which was awarded on May 10, 1982 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of the establishment was donated by Kiev .

Award terms

The medal could be awarded to two groups of people. On the one hand to the participants in the defense of the city in 1941 and its liberation in 1943 regardless of their place of residence, as well as to workers, employees and civil servants with a minimum residence of 10 years in the city of Kiev or one of its suburbs. The latter group of people must have made a valuable economic or cultural contribution to the city during this time. The terms of the award were interpreted generously, so that 780,180 people received the medal.

Appearance and wearing style

The medal is made of brass , shimmers bronze and has a diameter of 32 mm. On her obverse she shows a portrait of a Lenin monument against a radiant background. In front of the memorial, the representatives of the city of Kiev can be seen (from left to right) in the form of a sailor, a tank driver, a soldier and a partisan. This symbolism is enclosed by the above semicircular inscription: В память 1500-летия Киева (For the 1500th anniversary of Kiev). The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the medal 's mark of the order of the Hero of the Soviet Union on the upper edge of the medal and the two-line inscription below : ГОРОДУ-ГЕРОЮ СЛАВА! (Glorious Hero City). The conclusion is the representation of the building of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR with banner and flag in Kiev as well as the St. Sophia Cathedral .

The medal was worn on the upper left chest of the borrower on a green pentagonal clasp, the left 2 mm wide border of which is red and the right, also 2 mm wide, light blue. An 8 mm wide red vertical central stripe is woven into the middle of the ribbon. This is in turn traversed with two yellow 0.5 mm wide threads, of which the inner one is 1 mm from the outer one.
