".

Requirements for the award

According to the regulations drawn up by the Medal Commission, this medal should be awarded to:

  • Soldiers of the Polish People's Army
  • Soldiers who took part in the Defense War in 1939
  • Soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces in the West after returning to Poland
  • Poles who fought with Germany in the ranks of the Allied armies

From 1958 the medal was awarded by the State Council.

Originally the medal was called: Victory and Freedom Medal 1945. In the law of February 17, 1960, the medal was recognized in the Polish system of awards as the Victory and Freedom Medal in 1945 and recognized as a reward for those who contributed to the victory over Nazi fascism in 1945, of the war from 1939 to 1945.

The Medal of Victory and Freedom 1945 replaced the Polish award after the medal for Oder, Neisse, Baltic Sea .

The new Ordinance and Decorations Act, which came into force on December 23, 1992, did not contain the medal (repeal of the earlier Ordinance and Decorations Act of 1960), which is why its award (like most medals and decorations of the war for previous merits) was considered complete.
