The medal for outstanding achievements in socialist education in the pioneering organization "Ernst Thälmann" was an award of the Free German Youth of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was expanded in 1961 first in two stages, bronze and silver and in 1972 a third in bronze. was donated. The “medal” has the shape of a transverse oval oak leaf wreath 39 mm wide, which shows an oversized workers flag in its center, the tip of which protrudes over the edge of the badge. In the middle of the flag are the two head portraits of Ernst Thälmann and Wilhelm Pieck , which rest on a small medallion and are bordered on the underside by two crossed laurel branches. Above their heads is the inscription TO KAMPF FÜR DIE THÄLMANNS AND WILHELM PIECKS in the flag . Under the medallion is the slogan BE READY . There was also a 22.5 mm wide miniature for each step.
