The Medien Kultur Haus is a cultural center in the city of Wels in Upper Austria .

history

The building was built in the years 1901–1904 according to the plans of the Viennese architects Helmer and Fellner and was originally a savings bank building. The facade is artfully designed and decorated with metal shields and beehives made of copper sheet; it was designed by Heinrich Wolf . The building is a listed building ( list entry ).

The Medien Kultur Haus (MKH for short) was created in 2003 through a merger of the Galerie der Stadt Wels, Buch.Zeit and the Media Space association. In 2010, the Medien Kultur Haus was awarded the Great State Prize for Initiative for Cultural Work at the Upper Austrian Culture Prize.

Focus

The focus is on media communication and media production with young people. Various cultural initiatives work in the Medien Kultur Haus Wels:

  • Medien Kultur Haus - Association for the promotion of youth culture
  • Gallery of the city of Wels - art space with an international reputation
  • Media Space - center for the promotion of young media culture and organizer of the international youth media festival YOUKI
  • Buch.Zeit - center for children's and youth literature and organizer of the reading topia
  • Lovely! - Association for the mediation of socio-cultural media projects

As of 2012, the Wels Program Cinema Association will also be based in the Medien Kultur Haus.

  • YOUKI - International Youth Media Festival
  • Education programs for children, young people and senior citizens
  • Live TV broadcast in cooperation with dorf.tv
  • Lesetopia: Festival for children's and youth literature
  • Production of the TV show "The End of Cooking Shows"
  • Guest performances and a. from the puppet theater festival Wels and the Music Unlimited Festival
