Medical device salesman is an apprenticeship in Austria with a training period of 3 years. The apprenticeship as a medical device merchant can begin on January 1, 2016.

Medical device merchants sell medical devices , systems and medical aids, such as B. orthopedic and dental devices, technical aids for disabled people, reusable instruments (e.g. surgical cutlery), implants, anesthesia and ventilation equipment, x-ray and other imaging devices or hospital inventory, especially at hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, diagnostic laboratories , but also at specialist practices, physiotherapists and wellness facilities.

In the sales talk they determine the needs of their customers, advise them on the properties, function, technical details and product differences and the necessary requirements for commissioning, especially for technical devices (e.g. connections for electricity and water, installation options and protection). In the consultation you are subject to the strict regulations on the information obligation according to the Medical Devices Act. You negotiate delivery and payment conditions with customers and handle payment transactions.

Other important tasks include training customers in the proper use and care of the products, the replacement of defective or used parts and regular maintenance of the products, provided these tasks are not reserved for other regulated trades.

Medical device merchants order goods, accept and check deliveries and ensure proper storage (compliance with hygiene standards, storage of sterile products ). You are in contact with specialists from the medical field and with suppliers. They work in medical device retail and wholesale and are regularly on site with their customers.

education

The training lasts three years. It takes place predominantly in the training company and accompanying this in the vocational school , which conveys the theoretical background for practicing the profession.
