Greg Thomas Brunner (born June 15, 1983 in Charles City , Iowa ) is a retired American - Swiss basketball player . Since the end of his playing career, he has worked as a financial advisor in his home town of Iowa.

Career

Brunner grew up in the US state of Iowa and played basketball at Charles City High School in his hometown. Between 2002 and 2006 he wore the University of Iowa jersey . In its final season at the college (2005/06) the team won the championship in the Big Ten Conference. In the same year Brunner was named to the Big Ten Team of the Year and received the league's Medal of Honor.

He then hit a professional career and played in a 2006 summer league in Las Vegas for the Minnesota Timberwolves , but could not recommend himself for a contract with the NBA club.

Brunner spent his first two professional years in Belgium, where he played for the first division side Verviers-Pepinster (2006/07 season) and BC Oostende (2007/08). With Oostende he won the Belgian cup competition.

In the 2008/09 season, Brunner initially played briefly for the Israeli first division club Ironi Nahariya and moved in December 2008 to the Italian Serie A team Angelico Biella . In the following years he was under contract with various other Italian first division clubs, namely Sigma Coatings Montegranaro, Benetton Treviso, Bennet Cantu and Grissin Bon Reggio Emila.

Brunner also made his debut in the Euroleague in Cantu in 2012. In 2014 he won the European Cup " EuroChallenge " with Grissin Bon Reggio Emila .

After the 2013/14 season, he ended his playing career and returned to his home in Iowa.

National team

In 2010 he was appointed to the Swiss national team for the first time.

Parts of Brunner's family come from Grabs in the canton of St. Gallen .
