Medma ( Greek  Μέδμα ; also Mesma ) was an ancient Greek city on the west coast of southern Italy in Magna Graecia in what is now Calabria .

The city was founded at the beginning of the 6th century BC. Founded as a colony by Lokroi . Around 500 BC BC it fought successfully against Croton together with its mother city and the Hipponion, also founded by Lokroi , 422 BC. Against Lokroi. From the tyrant Dionysius I of Syracuse was 396 BC. Some of the inhabitants were forcibly relocated to Messana .

Archaeological finds have been excavated since the late 19th century in the fields of the Pian delle Vigne corridor about 200 meters east of the town of Rosarno , mainly terracottas as architectural elements and votive offerings. A large number of the objects are in the collections of the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia .

The philosopher Philip of Opus probably came from Medma .
