Megalovlachia
As Great Vlachia ( Greek Μεγαλοβλαχία ) or Megáli Vlachia Μεγάλη Βλαχία, German Muntenia or Großwlachien, also Ano Vlachia (Άνω Βλαχία, Upper Wallachia) was a region in what is now since the late Middle Ages Greece referred to as the present Thessaly and northern Fthiotida equivalent and since about the 11th century the majority - especially in the mountain regions - was populated by Aromanians . The name sets off the area of Aromanian populated areas in Aetolia-Acarnania , which asLittle Wallachia (Greek Mikri Vlachia Μικρή Βλαχία) were designated.
After the death of Michael II Angelus , the area was spun off from the Despotate of Epirus under his illegitimate son John I Dukas Komnenus and existed from 1268 to 1318 as an independent principality of Great Wallachia, also Vlachian Thessaly, which became part of the Duchy of Neopatria in 1319 .
