The Meidai Zhao Monastery ( Chinese  美 岱 召 , Pinyin Měidài zhào , English Meidai Lamasery / Meidai Monastery ) or Meidai Zhao chengsi 美 岱 召 城 寺 on the area of ​​the Chinese Right Tumed Banner - a banner of the district-free city of Baotou in the autonomous region Inner Mongolia of the People's Republic of China - is a Buddhist monastery at the foot of the Yinshan Mountains. The monastery town was founded in 1575 by the Mongolian ruler Altan Khan (chin. 阿勒坦汗) as a city monastery and fortress and was the first lama monastery on the Mongolian steppe. It has preserved its frescoes from the Ming Dynasty to this day. Here Altan Khan appointed the first Dalai Lama (see Sonam Gyatso ) in 1578 .

The monastery has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (Inner Mongolia) (4-135) since 1996 .
