Milestone (Milngavie)
The Milngavie milestone is in the center of the Scottish town of Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire . In 1988 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category C.
description
The milestone is located just off Glasgow Road , one of the main roads in the city, on which the A81 runs through Milngavie, between homes 13 and 15. It is made of slightly outwardly curved cast iron and was installed on this site in 1861 . The milestone shows a stylized hand pointing in a southerly direction below the two-line distance indication Glasgow Royal Exchange 7 [miles] . Below the hand are the indications Balfron 12 [miles] and Aberfoil [sic] 19 [miles] with a hand pointing north. The Milngavie milestone forms a group together with its sister stones in Drymen Road , McFarlane Road and Milngavie Road in Bearsden , each of which is also categorized as an individual monument.
