My Fatherland (movie song)

My Fatherland ( Chinese  我 的 祖國  /  我 的 祖国 , Pinyin Wǒde Zǔguó ) is a patriotic song written for the Chinese film Shangganling ( English Battle on Shangganling Mountain ) from 1956.

The lyrics are by Qiao Yu , the music was composed by Liu Chi . It is a very popular song in mainland China that was sung by famous opera soprano Guo Lanying in the movie .

In 2007, China's first lunar satellite, Chang'e-1 , was equipped with this selected song.


Text and music

The song is divided into three stanzas. In each verse, the soloist sings first before the choir sings the chorus.

Although the song for the film about the Korean War was written in the 1950s, there is no explicit mention of the war.

The music of the solo part has a character similar to that of northern Chinese folk music.
