content

Dunne is in bed and cannot sleep. Unlike others, however, she doesn't count sheep, but her happy moments. The reader gets to know Dunne's world through their train of thought.

She begins with her anticipation of school enrollment, which she cannot wait. The only thing that worries her is that she might not be able to make friends because she has not yet met any of her new classmates. On the second day she sees Ella Frida in the school yard, next to her the only girl who spends the break alone. The two girls quickly become best friends and do everything together: during the breaks they rock or paint sunsets, after school they play party boy with Ella's guinea pig, swap glossy pictures and found the nightclub, where they sit under the covers until late at night , talk and eat breakfast at night.

After the Christmas holidays, her happiness is suddenly disturbed when Ella Frida moves to Norrköping. Dunne is no longer happy and not even the snow and flake guinea pigs that Dad buys her can cheer her up. From now on everything goes wrong at Dunne. She falls and scrapes her knee, she injures her head while playing soccer, so she has to go to hospital, and during a class argument she pushes Jonathan so hard that he hits his head on the floor and his new front teeth almost fall out. This is the turning point of the story, because Dunne is plagued by serious feelings of guilt and finally apologizes with a letter to Jonathan, who immediately forgives her. On the same day, she breaks her record for skipping rope and slowly Dunne does something with other classmates. When one day she receives a letter from Ella Frida, who also misses Dunne, her happiness is restored.

At the end of the book the reader finally learns why Dunne cannot fall asleep: It's Easter break and the next day she can visit Ella Frida in Norrköping.
