Some married men remember the good times when they were still unmarried during dinner. One of them, Pierre Létoile, reports on the circumstances of his marriage. He was invited to a wedding at Colonel Doumolin's castle in Normandy . His host's daughter was his table lady. After the party, Létoile went to a country dance where he drank so much wine and cider that he crawled up the stairs of the castle completely drunk, mistaken the door and unknowingly fell asleep on the sofa in the chief's daughter's room. The next morning he was caught there. Nobody believed his assertion that nothing had happened between him and the girl. Under death threats from his father, he was forced to marry the girl. At the time of writing, Létoile has been happily married for five years and has never regretted the marriage, despite the fact that the god of drunkards made the decision for him.
