Opinions on sleep questionnaire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Opinion on Sleep Questionnaire ( MZS ) is a psychological test that asks people about stressful and unhelpful basic beliefs about their sleep. The MZS consists of 16 statements on the subject of sleep. For each of these, the respondent should indicate on a scale from 0 to 10 how much they agree with a statement, with 0 meaning “strongly disagree” and 10 “totally agree”. The questionnaire is mentioned in various manuals for the therapy of mentally induced sleep disorders . The original English language version has been translated into various languages such as French, Italian, Japanese, Swedish, Spanish and Hindi .

Scientific assessment

The translators themselves express themselves rather cautiously due to the data they have collected on the questionnaire: "For the time being, it can be assumed that this scale reflects expectations that make at most a minor contribution to the development and maintenance of sleep disorders and whose dysfunctional nature should therefore be discussed." Study from 2014 confirms the validity of the German translation.

Emergence

The MZS is a German translation of the English Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes About Sleep scale (DBAS) . In its original, English-language version by Charles M. Morin from 1993 and by Morin and colleagues from 2003, the DBAS comprises 30 questions. However, there are also short versions with 10 questions and 16 questions. The short version consisting of 16 questions served as the basis for the translation of the MZS. The German translation, authorized by the original author, was carried out by Pillmann in 2004 as part of the Halle insomnia study .
