from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With master of the Abbey of Coudewater ( Dutch : Meester van Koudewater ) is a 1470 in Brabant in the late Middle Ages active carver called. A group of holy figures made of walnut wood that is now owned by the Reichsmuseum Amsterdam is assigned to him.

The master received his emergency name because the figures assigned to him come from the inventory of the abbey of Coudewater near Rosmalen in Brabant. This was first bought by private hands in 1875 after this monastery of the Birgit Order was dissolved, and then in 1883 it went to the Reichsmuseum. There it was recognized that nine figures, each approx. 92 cm in size, were made by a master who was then called master (of the abbey) of Coudewater .
