Candelaria concolor , also known as candlestick lichen , is a type of lichen . The specific epithet concolor is Latin and means "monochrome, uni".

description

The lichen bedding forms small rosettes about 0.5 to 2 cm in size. Your thallus is divided into green-yellow to lemon-yellow, delicate and slashed lobules that are about 2 mm long, have sorales on the edge and have whitish rhizines on the underside for attachment to the base. The apothecia - then also yellow - rarely occur. It can be differentiated from similar species of the genus Xanthoria by a negative KOH reaction (i.e. lack of red color when sprinkled with potassium hydroxide ).

distribution

The candelabra is the only European species of the genus Candelaria . In Central Europe it occurs comparatively often, especially on the bark of free-standing deciduous trees, only rarely on stone. Above all, bark that is moderately rich in nutrients or bases is colonized, especially on street and fruit trees ( Norway maple , ash , linden , poplar and elm ). The distribution area extends from central Fennoscandia to the Mediterranean area.
