The Gothic painter who created the panel painting with a Madonna and Child in Bohemia around 1460 is known as the master of the Neuhaus Madonna . The work shows Mary with the baby Jesus in front of a gilded background.

Naming

According to the place of origin of his picture from Jindřichův Hradec (Neuhaus) , the master who was not known by name was given his emergency name . Despite this naming, it is not clear whether the picture was commissioned for Neuhaus. Possibly it was painted commercially in series production in one of the painters' workshops in Prague , exhibited for sale and thus came to Neuhaus through purchase.
