Master of the Langmatt Foundation's vedute

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a master of Veduten the Langmatt Foundation , a painter is Baroque referred ranging from about 1750 to 1780 in Venice worked. The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after thirteen vedutas painted by him . These pictures with views of the city of Venice can be found today in the Langmatt Museum in Baden, Switzerland.

Pictures of Venice and other Italian cities were painted for the mostly wealthy visitors to Italy, who were numerous even at the time of the master. The creation of such souvenirs, which today is summarized under the term vedute painting, provided a good living for some painters in Venice, Rome and Florence, including those who are still famous today, such as the Venetian Canaletto . Some of the pictures by the master of the vedute of the Langmatt Foundation that can be found in the Museum Langmatt are based on models from other Venetian vedute painters such as Canaletto.

Other pictures attributed to the master are mostly in private ownership, a few works are made available to the public, such as a picture in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection in Madrid. All show a high level of craftsmanship and a detailed perspective. Many of the pictures are based on motifs by other painters, but the master enhances his pictures with his own personal observations and figures. Some aspects of this artist's painting style, such as his typical depiction of green-blue water with white lines as foam, seem to imitate later vedute painters in Venice.

It has been suggested that the master of Veduten the Langmatt Foundation with Apollonio Domenichini , called Il Menichino, was identical. This identification is controversial in research.
