Master of the Altar of Beyghem

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The master of the Beyghem Altarpiece (or Master of Beighem ) is a painter who worked in the Spanish Netherlands in the Flanders region from around 1520 to around 1540 . His emergency name goes back to his altarpiece for a church in Beighem near Brussels. The master stands at the transition from the late Gothic to the Renaissance .

The pictures he received show the coats of arms of the donors, which refer to the important noble clients of the master from the area around the court of Charles V and his successors.

The works of Master von Beighem are relatively unknown to the general public today. Art historians point to the special light effect that the master was able to capture in his main work Die Gefangennahme Christ .
