Master of the Adelaide de Savoie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Master of Adelaide de Savoie or Master of Poitiers 30 is a medieval illuminator who was active in France, probably mainly in Poitiers , in the second half of the 15th century .

The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name after two works with his miniatures. First it was named after its miniatures in a book of hours owned by the Adelaide of Savoy, a daughter of Louis XIV. Then it was suggested that it be named after two of his miniatures in a Missal for use in Poitiers. The painter is considered to be the most important representative of book illumination of the regional school of Poitiers.

The master is also said to have contributed miniatures to the Book of Hours from Poitiers in the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. A closeness to the style of the master of Jouvenel des Ursins is particularly evident in his pictures in this work, which was created by a group of painters .
