The Master of Sankt Severin was a late Gothic painter who worked in Cologne in the Middle Ages until around 1520 . Since his real name is unknown, he is named after his cycle of 20 pictures with depictions from the Severin legend, which is still in Cologne's Severinskirche today.

style

With the master of the Aachen altar and the master of the (Cologne) Ursula legend , he is a representative of the late Cologne Gothic period and stands on the threshold of modern painting. He was one of the last important representatives of the late medieval painters who held on to the late Gothic traditions of the so-called Cologne School of Painting in the region until the second decade of the 16th century .
