The Melanchthonkirche is a Protestant church in Cologne district ruler on Rosenzweig Park . The church, named after the reformer Philipp Melanchthon , was built between 1929 and 1930 according to plans by Theodor Merrill .
construction
The Melanchthon Church distinguished itself as one of the first Protestant churches in Germany, which houses the church on the upper floor and a community center in the basement. The original concept of the building project envisaged rooms for the diverse church association activities and a confirmation hall on the ground floor.
history
At the request of the Evangelical Citizens' Association to the Bayenthal Presbytery, the church was built over a period of almost two years. The foundation stone was laid on September 8, 1929, the inauguration on June 15, 1930. During the Second World War, the ceremonial church, the sacristy and the chancel were destroyed during an air raid on Cologne on October 28, 1944. The reconstruction was decided on March 17, 1948. The parish kindergarten opened on September 27, 1954. When the Cologne church district was redistributed into four parts in 1963, the Melanchthon congregation was assigned to the Cologne South Synod. Since 2000 the Melanchthon Church has also been presented on the Internet at the address of the same name.
Bells
In the high bell tower of the Melanchthon Church hangs a relatively modest chime from three bells that were cast in Sinn by the Rincker bell and art foundry . The small bell is the only one left from the previous chiming in 1929. The two larger bells were cast in 1957. The bell hangs in a two-story steel bell chair on straight steel yokes.
