Melanchthon Church

The Melanchthon Church , named after Philipp Melanchthon , is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Hanover in the Bult district .

It was built from 1959 to 1961 according to the plans of the Hanoverian architect Karl-Heinz Lorey on the site of a former arbor colony . The church has the basic shape of a simple Greek cross .

Furnishing

The church has two diagonally placed entrances. The chancel was designed with shell limestone . In the middle of the building was a font designed by Ingeborg Steinohrt - directly under the 15 meter high top of the copper roof. A lower church with 100 seats was integrated for prayer and smaller events. The Hanoverian sculptor Siegfried Zimmermann designed the eight bronze reliefs with biblical motifs that have been installed at the entrance since 1988.

In 2012/2013 the church was fundamentally rebuilt while maintaining the external design. Community and functional rooms were integrated into the existing cubature of the side wings, and the sacred space was reduced in size. The lower church was converted into a multifunctional group room.
