Melchior Russ

Melchior Russ or soot (* around 1450 in Lucerne ; † July 20, 1499 ) was a Swiss historian .

Russ was a council clerk in Lucerne. In 1479 and 1488 he went as an envoy to Matthias Corvinus , King of Hungary , who knighted him, and fell in the Swabian War in 1499.

From 1482 to 1488 he wrote a Lucerne Chronicle that extended to 1412 , one of the oldest historical works that reports on Wilhelm Tell (published by J. Schneller, Kopp and Wurstemberger, Bern 1834 and 1838).
