Melisende
Melisende , also Melisande or Melisendis , is a woman's name that was more common in France in the Middle Ages . It is derived from the name of the Ostrogothic queen Amalasuntha (525-536) from the Amal dynasty and probably means gentle walk , from Germanic mel , 'dear, mild' and sinpa , from Gothic sinps , 'way, walk, war train'.
The best- known bearer of the name is Melisende (1105–1160 / 61), Queen of Jerusalem , daughter of King Baldwin II , wife of King Fulko and mother of Kings Baldwin III. and Amalrich I.
Melisende von Jerusalem bears the name of her grandmother, Melisende de Montlhéry from a younger branch of the Montmorency family , in which this name appears several times.
At the end of the 19th century , Maurice Maeterlinck's name was picked up for his play Pelléas et Mélisande .
