Melville Schachter

Melville Schachter (* 1920 in Montreal , † May 18, 2000 in London ) was a Canadian medic .

After studying in Canada, he emigrated to London in 1950 , where he worked at the National Institute for Medical Research until 1953 and at the Lister Institute from 1953 to 1954 . From 1954 to 1965 he worked at University College London .

In 1965 he returned to Canada and until 1985 headed the Department of Physiology at the University of Alberta . He is internationally known for his work on the physiology and pharmacology of endogenous vasoactive substances .

In 1995 he was awarded the EK Frey - E. Werle Commemorative Medal for his work on Kinine .
