"Leon H. Brigham Field" above Memorial Stadium scoreboard

The name "Leon H. Brigham Field" can now be read above the stadium's scoreboard. This is a tribute to the football player and coach who was inducted into the Washington State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1979 .

use

The stadium is owned by the Seattle Public Schools and is primarily used for high school football games. But the Memorial Stadium also has a long tradition as a venue for football matches. The Seattle Sounders played here in the North American Soccer League in 1974 and 1975 before moving to the newly built Kingdome . Likewise, the franchise of the same name , which played in the A-League and USL First Division , competed in Memorial Stadium from 1997 to 2002. Then the Sounders moved to the new Qwest Field . Seattle Reign FC , who play in the National Women's Soccer League , has played their home games in the stadium since 2014 .

The only (semi-professional) football team that played at Memorial Stadium from 2007 to 2009 were the Seattle Majestics , a women's team from the Independent Women's Football League .

Memorial Stadium also hosted the opening event for the Century 21 Exposition , which was hosted in Seattle in 1962.

Today, concerts and music festivals are also held regularly in the stadium .
