Menhir de la Bergerie des Étennevaux
The menhir de la Bergerie des Étennevaux (also called Grosse Pierre ) is a menhir in Saint-Germain-des-Vaux in the far north of the Manche department in Normandy in France .
The menhir is a cuboid, trapezoidal granite block . It is approximately 2.25 m high and 1.3 m wide, with a circumference at the base of 3.2 m.
There were engravings on the stone that have been erased.
Nearby, La Roche Gélétan is a rock about 12.0 meters high that, according to legend, is a pebble that Gargantua removed from his boot. Excavations have revealed one of the oldest inhabited sites on the Cotentin Peninsula , dating back to the early Paleolithic .
